He plays as a goalkeeper and his team is the Fútbol Club Barcelona of the First Division of Spain, a team of which he is the fourth captain. He is an absolute international with the German team since 2012.456
After four Bundesliga seasons with Borussia Mönchengladbach, making 108 league appearances, he signed for Barcelona for €12 million in 2014. He won the treble in his first season in Spain, playing for Barcelona in Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League.
Ter Stegen represented Germany at various youth levels and made his senior international debut in 2012.
