Description

Lightning McQueen is a anthropomorphic race car and the star of the Cars movies, as well as several of its animated shorts and series, where he serves as the franchise's main protagonist. The character shares his surname with actor and race car driver Steve McQueen and Pixar animator Glenn McQueen (who was honored at the end of Finding Nemo). Various people have paid tribute to him by adopting his famous number, "95," including Luke Shaw, Usain Bolt (during his aspirations to become a soccer player), and soccer player José María Alonso. In Cars, Lightning McQueen's design is based on NASCAR vehicles. He typically sports a red paint job with lightning bolt designs and the Rust-eze logo on his hood. His number, 95, is a reference to the year Pixar's first feature film, Toy Story, was released. In Cars 2, he modifies his paint job for the World Grand Prix, replacing the Rust-eze logo on his hood with the Hudson Hornet Piston Cup logo. He also changes his rear wing to a spoiler, and now has real lights instead of the decals from the first film. In Cars 3, he again has the Rust-eze logo and spoiler from the first film, but with a new lightning bolt and flame design, and he retains his lights. At the end of the film, he has the blue livery of Fabulous Lightning McQueen, inspired by the Fabulous model used by his mentor, Doc Hudson.
